Patrick Shanks graduated magna cum laude with his Bachelor of Science in Accounting in May 2021 from the University at Buffalo (UB), and continued his studies at UB, currently finishing his Master of Science in Accounting with an expected graduation date of May 2022. Patrick began his undergraduate career interested in accounting from his experience with courses in high school. After taking the introductory-level financial accounting course at UB, he was inspired by his colleagues and professors to pursue a degree in accounting.
During his undergraduate degree, Patrick became very involved in the School of Management community. Patrick became a peer tutor for the introductory accounting courses in managerial and financial accounting to benefit students’ success inside and outside of the classroom. During Patrick’s senior year he was elected President of the University at Buffalo Accounting Association (UBAA). Patrick is currently a Graduate Teaching Assistant for the introductory level financial accounting course where he encourages students to pursue a career in accounting and utilizes his passion to impact those around him.
As Patrick progressed through the accounting program, he became very passionate about a career in the audit track of public accounting. Patrick interned at Ernst & Young as an assurance intern last summer. Post-graduation this May, Patrick will begin his professional career as an assurance staff at Ernst & Young in their One Manhattan West office.
Patrick is extremely thankful for the support he has had from his professors, family, and friends. Patrick’s experience at the University at Buffalo has provided him with endless opportunities that he is extremely grateful for, and he is very excited to continue to make an impact on the university as an alum.
