University of Utah
I started my education in public health and completed a Master of Public Health degree before realizing I was also interested in accounting. I spent time doing research in Ghana with a U.S.-based nonprofit organization, but the organization was unable to sustain its much-needed services in Ghana because of poor financial management and had to close its doors. I knew then that I wanted to work at the intersection of public health and accounting with NGOs and charitable organizations. I pursued a degree in accounting so I could provide the financial knowledge and skillset required to help nonprofit organizations create sustainable internal infrastructure while also understanding the public health aspect of their essential work because of my public health background. I completed a Master of Accounting degree at the University of Utah in May 2021, and I will begin my accounting career with Haynie & Company as a Tax Associate. I am a member of the AICPA, UACPA, and IMA, and when I’m not reading the Internal Revenue Code, I enjoy spending time with my husband and 3 little girls camping and hiking in Utah’s beautiful mountains.
