I was first motivated to pursue an accounting degree in high school. I was enrolled in the Business Program which included two semesters of intro Accounting and with the help of my teachers and counselors, I realized this was the profession I wanted to pursue. I was able to secure a golf scholarship to the University of Texas at El Paso (UTEP) where I was a member of the women’s team for five years until I graduated with my dual Bachelor’s Degrees in both Accounting and Management in May 1997. For the past twenty four years, I have been an accountant in both private and public industries. For the last sixteen years, I have been working for one of our local school districts as their Fund Accountant. In 2010, I earned my Registered Texas School Business Administrator (RTSBA) certification from our governing board, the Texas Education Agency (TEA).

I absolutely love working with the education sector and have decided that in order to do more for my community, I would need to further my education by obtaining my Master of Accountancy degree as well as sit for the CPA exam this coming January 2022. Once these goals are completed, I would like to either move up to an Associate Superintendent or Chief Administrator type position or actually be in a classroom setting. Whether it be teaching in a high school environment or a college setting, I feel I have a lot of knowledge and passion for our profession that I can pass on to the younger generation as my high school sponsor and college professors did for me.

I thank you for your time and am extremely honored to receive this award from both UTEP and the Federation of Schools of Accountancy.
